Major Learning Outcomes (MLO)
The Japanese Language and Culture program was made to prepare aspiring students to "be active participants in an ever-shrinking and increasingly interdependent world society by developing students’ literacy in global matters, multiculturalism and cultural diversity, as well as guiding students to achieve an impressive level of language proficiency (intermediate-high level according to the ACTFL guidelines in Japanese) to be able to communicate effectively in Japanese with well-rounded Japanese cultural knowledge in such areas as history, literature and social sciences."
In order to complete the program, students must not only meet the Major Learning Outcomes (listed below) but incorporate and connect what they have learned from their courses to these outcomes. Doing so can deepen a student's understanding and prepare them for successful careers in their futures.
MLO 1: Language and Communication
MLO 2: Culture
MLO 3: Secondary Culture
MLO 4: Research and Technology
MLO 5: Culture Internalization and Language Immersion
